ORITO is a fusion of culture and design. Our products are designed in Germany and handcrafted in Colombia, bringing together the resources and skills of both countries. ORITO is a celebration of the rich heritage of cross-cultural creativity and the people we connect with on our journey.
We decided to start ORITO to make beautiful knitwear for children, whilst also supporting those in need. 10% of our profits go to a fund that supports socially disadvantaged families in Colombia. These families are often the victims of violence and flee from rural areas of the country to big cities without taking much with them, looking for better possibilities for themselves and their families. This project was inspired in a group of retired women that had the initiative to help families, who struggle to care for young infants by providing much needed baby kits, who also nowadays lead the manufacture of our products. The kits include a few clothes, a towel, and hand knitted pieces like cardigan, hat, scarf, socks and blanket.
All our products are handmade by Colombian women, using local resources and traditional techniques. With every purchase of an ORITO garment we are able to help finance the materials and cloths for the baby kits.
ORITO derives its name from a town in the Putumayo department located in the south of Colombia, not very far from the border with Ecuador. A beautiful place that is rich in its beauty and people and an inspiration for our products.
